At Denver South Chiropractic, we are proud to offer Denver dry needling to help patients who are suffering from chronic pain. Dry needling, also known as myofascial trigger point dry needling, is a treatment for pain during which “dry” needles are inserted into the skin in certain areas.
Though seemingly similar to acupuncture, dry needling is based on modern Western medicine, and its effectiveness is supported by research. These needles are not treated with medication, and they are inserted into parts of the muscle known as trigger points.
Denver Dry Needling
Dry needling is often performed along with other types of care for pain management. This technique works by releasing trigger points to increase the range of motion and decrease pain. Ongoing research shows that dry needling provides results by easing muscle tension, normalizing dysfunction and easing the pain.
What Are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are simply bands of skeletal muscle located within a larger muscle group. Often tender to the touch, applying pressure to one of these points may also result in pain felt in other parts of the body.
Thin, sterile needles are inserted directly into these points during dry needling. This stimulates and deactivates these points, resulting in relief from pain.
