Is your Posture effecting you health?

People throughout  Denver are worried  about their  posture. If you don’t have good posture, you could experience  a variety of ailments and symptoms, including  back pain, shoulder and neck pain, headaches, fatigue and more. Many first notice  that their posture is incorrect  when looking in the mirror or at  photographs. You may also notice that you have a tendency to  slump over or towards your computer or that  you sit slouched in your chair.  Some people don’t even notice that something is off with their posture until they notice that their shoes are wearing unevenly!

Most often, posture degenerates slowly over time, and it is never too late to correct your poor posture and enjoy  the health benefits of doing so.

What are the benefits of good posture?

Having good posture has several benefits. Just like  bad posture can have a negative impact on  how you look and feel, improved posture can have a positive impact. According to the American Journal of Pain Management,  your posture affects and moderates every physiologic function in your body. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are just a few of  the functions that can be most easily influenced by posture. Changing your posture can greatly improve your life. Just look around. How much more positive, healthy and attractive do people with good  posture look to you?

What  you can do to improve your posture

Like with any health problem, there is not just a single approach to posture correction. This means you will need to consider your overall health and factors that have accumulated throughout your life.

Until you are able to seek professional treatment, try making this small change to get an idea of just how much  impact an improved posture can have:

Either sit or stand in front of a mirror. Gently and slowly raise your upper chest and move slightly forward. What do you see?  You probably  see a more attractive and confident-looking  person. One of the visual effects of slumping posture is a  sunken chest, so improving this can actually improve your figure. Now, how do you feel when you gently lift your chest?  You likely feel more energized and like you can breathe better.

Perform this simple exercise on a daily basis and note how you look and feel.

How can small changes in posture be so effective?

Leading a healthier lifestyle doesn’t have to happen all at once. In fact, trying to make large changes can be daunting and overwhelming,  and in many cases, those changes simply never take place. Working with small changes is much  easier and more manageable. As a result, they end up being more effective.

For a small  preview of what’s possible, try this exercise. You need to remember to be reasonable with your short term expectations, though. Your poor posture is something that you developed throughout your life up to this point; major changes and improvements aren’t going to take place over night.
