Chiropractic has helped countless people live their lives free from pain. Despite the number of successful cases, though, there are several myths that surround chiropractic treatment. Today, I want to take a few minutes to debunk some of the most common myths and misconceptions I hear in my office. Hopefully this will allow me to clear up some of your concerns and make you feel comfortable seeking chiropractic treatment.
Myth #1: Chiropractic Hurts
When you‘re already suffering from pain or stiffness, the idea of any movement can be less than appealing, and it‘s only natural to think that chiropractic techniques would be painful. However, in reality, chiropractic treatments usually do not hurt.
A bit of discomfort is common during treatment, and you may feel some “good pain” or that “it hurts so good” feeling. A reduction in pain and improved range of motion almost always follows immediately. During your treatment, your chiropractor will watch out for non-verbal signs that you may be in pain, and you are always encouraged to speak up if you are experiencing discomfort.
Myth #2: You‘ll Have to Continue Chiropractic Treatment for Life
Many people think that seeing a chiropractor is a lifelong commitment. While there are benefits to undergoing routine chiropractic care, you don‘t have to continue seeing a chiropractor once your ailment has been alleviated. In many cases, your problem can be treated within a few appointments.
When you visit my office, I will work out a treatment plan based on the exact nature of your pain or discomfort and the intended outcome. This information will determine how long your course of treatment will last.
Myth #3: Chiropractors Aren‘t “Real” Medical Professionals
Though there are distinctions between chiropractors and medical doctors, doctors of chiropractic are absolutely medical professionals. They undergo extensive training to learn their trade, and many complete undergrad pre-med degrees.
Because the requirements for being a chiropractor are a bit looser than the requirements for being an M.D., you should always choose a Denver chiropractor carefully. Check out his or her qualifications and education.
