Get Out and Enjoy These Exercises That Won’t Hurt Your Back

With spring finally here and summer just on the horizon, many of our Denver chiropractic patients are itching to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather. From working in the yard and garden to finding ways to get some outdoor exercise, this is a great time of year to get your body in motion. Our bodies need regular physical activity in order to remain healthy, but there’s always a risk of overdoing it. This is especially true if you weren’t very active during the winter months.

Exercise is undeniably great, but overdoing it could result in serious back pain. If you’re looking for ways to get out and enjoy some outdoor exercise without paying for it later, check out these spring exercises that won’t hurt your back.

Exercises That Won’t Hurt Your Back

Walking

Experts agree – walking at least 10,000 steps each day is a good way to avoid gaining weight and maybe even shed a few of those extra pounds. Did you know, though, that doing so could also alleviate your lower back pain? Research shows that walking two to three times per week for 20 to 40 minutes eases pain in the lower back.

Bicycling

Bicycling is a low-impact exercise that allows you to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather here in Denver without injuring your back. Whether you take the family for a quick jaunt around the neighborhood or you head out to one of the many trails in the area for a few hours of riding, biking is great exercise.

Rainy Day Exercises

Unfortunately, some days aren’t as pleasant as others, and there will be times when going outside for a walk or a bike ride isn’t practical. Fortunately, there are several low-impact exercises you can enjoy inside your home at a gym. Your best options include using an elliptical, treadmill or stationary bike.

No matter what type of outdoor or indoor exercise you choose, start slowly. Ease into new physical activities over the course of a few weeks to avoid injuries and excess strain. It’s also a good idea to check with your doctor or chiropractor before beginning any exercise regimen.
