Dry Needle Treatment: What Is It?

For patients suffering from chronic pain, dry needle treatment may be the perfect solution. But what exactly is dry needling? While many people mistakenly believe that it is the same as acupuncture, it’s actually a revolutionary, safe and natural treatment based on proven western medicine and backed by numerous studies.

Dry needling provides pain relief and eases tension in the muscles. At Denver South Chiropractic, we are thrilled to offer this treatment to our Denver patients. To learn more about dry needle treatment at Denver South Chiropractic, keep reading!

What Is Dry Needle Treatment?

Dry needling is a treatment for pain during which extremely thin needles are inserted into specific areas of a muscle. Known as trigger points, these areas can cause tension and pain and are often tender to the touch. Inserting a needle stimulates the trigger point as well as the underlying muscular and connective tissue, causing the trigger point to “release”. The release eases pain and muscle tension, and the tiny puncture wounds stimulate your body’s natural healing processes.

The needles used during treatment are referred to as “dry” simply because they aren’t treated with any type of medication. They’re extremely thin to ensure that patients experience minimal – if any – discomfort, and each needle is only used once then disposed of in a medical sharps container.
